About Us
Our family farm is situated near Queenswood Country Park in the beautiful county of Herefordshire. A very rural county, with lovely scenery and friendly people.
Farming is very important to this region, for many families it is a way of life that has continued throughout the generations but like all businesses, has had to adapt and change.
In the 1980’s we began producing eggs from free-ranging hens to the highest welfare standards i.e. B.E.I.C. Lion code and RSPCA Freedom Food. Since then we have won many awards from “The Flavours of Herefordshire – Producer of the Year” to a mention in Rick Stein’s book “Food Heroes”.
Most of our hens are a hybrid warren and are available all year round. They are lovely brown hens (different shades of light to dark brown to choose from). They have a wonderful docile nature and best of all, are prolific egg layers. They arrive on farm at 17 weeks of age and are fully vaccinated against all common poultry illnesses, including salmonella. They range freely on fields from morning until dusk and have access to water, shelter and diet of quality (non GM) cereal based feed which is supplement from the pastures on which they roam.
In recent years we have diversified and now make housing, arks and runs on our farm using quality pressure treated timber. We also sell an ever expanding range of poultry & pet housing, poultry equipment, hygiene products - even raised vegetable beds and bird tables are now on show.
Our aim is to make keeping hens an enjoyable and rewarding experience for they are the ultimate productive pet.
We are passionate about what we do and are always on hand to help or give advice to customers. We regularly receive pictures and emails from satisfied customers who enthusiastically (and proudly) like to share their hen keeping experiences.
Quality at an affordable price – we understand only too well the importance of value for money and therefore make quality lasting products at a sensible price. Why not come along and have a look for yourself.

Most Frequently Asked Question
Why have my hens stopped laying ?
There are several different causes that will affect egg production and these include:-
- Feed & Water
- Insect Infestation
- Worms
- Stress
Weather Conditions
- Disease
FEED & WATER
The hens we sell are low maintenance provided they are fed quality food, clean water and are housed in a clean environment.
We use a premium ration of layers crumb. It is GM Free, has no artificial colours, contains oyster shell and all the essential vitamins and minerals. (If you are unfamiliar with oyster shell it is included with the feed to aid shell quality and bone structure and this is very important for the longevity of the hen).
Our layers feed is a complete ration and with the benefit of grazing from the pastures, your hens should produce eggs with a golden yolk. Remember the yolks will vary in colour depending upon what they have eaten.
We have been producing free-range eggs for 20 years (supplying major supermarkets and we are proud to have won many awards). We have tried and tested various feed on the market but nothing is as good as the layers crumb we use at present. Not only is it nutritional and the hens find it interesting, which in turn helps prevent boredom and egg pecking, but moreover it produces results i.e. good quality eggs.
It is essential to provide your hens with clean water at all times. It must be remembered that in hot weather the hens will drink more and eat less.
INSECT INFESTATION
Insect infestation in hens will affect egg production and bird welfare. The most common are red mite and lice, which are more of a problem during the summer months. Red mite is particularly unpleasant as it feeds on blood from the hen. To help avoid these insects it is essential that your hen housing and nest boxes are kept clean. It is also advisable to check the birds periodically. There are products available to help combat red mite and lice, some of which we have in stock.
WORMS
From time to time hens may need worming. You can buy a wormer from your Vet or alternatively we periodically have feed delivered with the wormer included, which you can purchase from us.
STRESS
As humans we know only too well how stress affects our life. With hens it could be simple things like a change of feed, lack of water, noise, bullying from other hens and so on. By checking your hens regularly you will soon notice if there is a problem.
WEATHER CONDITIONS
No one can control the weather. However our hens are a resilient breed and as long as they have a weatherproof hen house for the winter (with access in and out) and shade for the hot sunny summer days, they will do just fine.
DISEASE
Our warren pullets are vaccinated against all common poultry illnesses. However you may already have birds on your property, some of which are not vaccinated. There are many diseases that could affect them and unfortunately some are fatal. Most illnesses will affect their production of eggs to a lesser or greater degree. If in doubt, isolate the birds in question and seek advice.
